The fact is that if Estates were to go to the exchequer the only ones to get there would have little or no value. Just look at what is happening to the late Duke of Wesrminster's money as an example.

Infidel - You're at it again. Where Have I said that you "grossly misrepresented" my comments. If you're going to constantly misrepresent what people say then there's absolutely no point discussing anything with you. In future I'll be giving your posts a swerve.

Nice try, but it won't wash.
I went back and read your original post. Your objection to a higher IHT was that "The government gets the fucking money".
I don't see how I grossly misrepresented that statement by adding the adjective 'all'. That's nit picking in the extreme.
The fact is that you failed even to acknowledge that I am suggesting REPLACING income tax with IHT.
Like virtually all the other people on here who argue against it you frame your argument only in relation to IHT, without any reference to the reduction income tax that it makes possible.
And the reason you do that is because you cannot argue with the principle that public services should be paid for by taxes on unearned income as far as possible, with the minimum possible taxation on earned income.
Try arguing that point, I dare you..

Infidel, you're nowhere near as clever as you strive (pitifully) to make out. Unlike you, I did read and understand your gibberish.
I did not say, as you claim, that 'the government gets ALL the money'. By including the adjective you have deliberately changed the meaning of my comment.
In future I recommend that you provide accurate quotes from other posts, otherwise you might come across as a bit of a cunt. And we wouldn't want that.

afan 8:46 Thu Aug 11 Be careful what you wish for!
I did 10 years labouring before I became an assistant Librarian. As a labourer, I lifted and threw and caught hard weights with no pain or injury. After a few weeks in the library, I was looking to file a quarto on the lowest shelf and my back totally gave out. Be careful what you wish for!
Its a mans life in the library

This is your solution to the pension crisis right, fiddle?
Well how about getting more willing and able young people in from Syria and Morocco in to make a contribution?
You know it does make sense.

There's one fly in the ointment of your post. You didn't read my proposal.
I proposed cutting income tax to a flat 20% and using a greatly increased IHT to replace it.
So your argument that 'the government gets all the money' demonstrates that you haven't understood what I wrote.
Can't understand why that's such a difficult concept to grasp but there you go.

I always noted the relatively very repressed sexual energy in public libraries.
The newspaper reading room at Greenwich Library was certainly a place I quickly learnt to avoid back in the day.

Infidel - there's one big fly in the ointment when it comes to your espousing of a 100% tax on inheritance. The fucking government gets the money. As if they don't waste enough of peoples hard earned cash. Besides, why the hell should the government be allowed to tax for a second or third time peoples previously taxed income. You call yourself a libertarian, but on this matter sound more like a Marxist. This is taken from the Libertarian Party web site " it follows that the freedom to contract to obtain, retain, profit from, manage, or dispose of one’s property must also be upheld". I think you're a tad confused.

In my experience librarians much prefer their libraries full of perfectly filed books and empty of punters offensively ignorant of the importance and operation of the Dewey decimal system

Librarians don't have a problem with the social nature of their rational faculties. So at least they don't dream up nonsense about 100% IHT.
Anyway, what does the "H" stand for or is there a UHT as well?
